Emma Campbell

Emma Campbell is an award-winning Canadian writer known for popular tween dance and music shows Next Step and Lost and Found Music Studio, as well as dramedy The Perfect Landing and horror drama Creeped Out.
Her first feature film, The Tenant, was optioned by Whizbang Films and won second prize in the Canadian Film Festival’s Script Accelerator Contest, sponsored by Super Channel. She was awarded a scholarship for the Prime-Time Television Writing program at the Canadian Film Centre. While there she developed her original teen show, Whacked. Whacked was put into development by Family Channel.
The CBC network developed Emma’s half hour comedy series, Drop the Needle about the life and times of the godfather of Canadian hip hop, Maestro Fresh Wes. She was awarded the Banff World Media Festival’s Bell Media Fellowship for her original sci-fi show, Sara Finn. Emma wrote multiple episodes for the BAFTA winning BBC horror anthology show, Creeped Out, one of which, “The Takedown” earned her a 2020 Writer’s Guild of Canada award. Emma wrote and produced CBBC and Family Channel’s My Perfect Landing and developed a new teen fantasy series, The Ora Chronicles for Guru Studios.
Emma has written and produced for the long running; hit BBC/NBC/Family Channel BAFTA and CSA winning tween show The Next Step for six seasons. She was Co-executive producer and writer on its current ninth season. Most recently Emma co-wrote multiple scripts and directed the teaser trailer for Northern Nightingales.
Emma started her directing career in theatre, focussing mainly on the works of Tennessee Williams. She began her TV directing career by shadowing the award-winning directors Mitchell Ness, and Melanie Orr on the teen shows The Next Step and Oh, Yuck respectively. Emma directed multiple webisodes for the BAFTA and CSA winning BBC/Family Channel tween show The Next Step. The webisodes, many of which she wrote, acted as a narrative bridge between seasons for the hit show.
